Yield Yourselves unto God

The essence of consecration is found in the scriptural exhortation, “Yield yourselves unto God.” Consecration is fundamentally not dedication to God’s work, not to the mission field or to the ministry, not to a life of sacrifice nor to lay service in the church; consecration is to God himself. Entire consecration is our willingness and our resolution to accept and to do the whole will of God insofar as it is made known to us.

Such an act of self-dedication offers us the greatest hope for happiness in this life and it is our assurance of seeing God hereafter. In the face of these facts, why do we hesitate? We who have been saved from our sins believe that God is a personal God, that He loves us, and that He has made known His will concerning us. We believe that He is wiser than we, that He is more powerful than all the forces that may oppose Him. We believe that He is more interested in our welfare than we are in ourselves.

If we accept all of this, why should we not dedicate ourselves to His will? Why are we reluctant to consecrate our little all to God in exchange for all of Him? Why should we hesitate to make the supreme acquiescence and say, “Not my will, but Thine, be done”?

Prayer For Today

Oh, Thou Most High God… Glory to Thy holy name!… I have nothing to fear. Now, O Father! my God and Savior, I humbly pray Thee so to keep me that all my powers of soul, body, and spirit.., shall continually, exclusively and eternally glorify Thy holy name through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen and amen.
