It has pleased “the God of all grace to bestow upon me many rich and glorious blessings
which I would here record to the Divine glory and the benefit of my fellow-Christians.
In a few months after I was reclaimed, at the age of seventeen years, I was deeply
convicted of the need of entire sanctification; for I could see in the teachings of the Bible, and in the experience of Mr. and Mrs. John Fletcher, Hester Ann Rogers, William Bramell, John Smith, and others, a state of grace that I had not yet attained. I fasted, prayed, and mortified the deeds of the body that I might reach this.
Still I found it must be received by faith; so I determined one night that I would never eat
till I obtained the blessing. All alone about eleven o’clock, there came into my soul such a heaven – such a holy calm, that I knew the long-sought blessing was mine; and with it came the sweet Spirit voice testifying to my heart that my request was granted.
In the Spirit of this entire sanctification, I began to speak in public, and to prepare for the
ministry, which I knew was my life long work. In a few years my way opened to come to America, and God led me, by His Spirit, to the State of Maine, where I found the fields white to the harvest, and I was permitted to gather many golden sheaves for the heavenly garner. God gave me success in every charge.
