LADY SELINAS HUNTINGDON
LADY SELINAS HUNTINGDON
[Lady Huntingdon appointed John Fletcher to be the head of Trevecca college, but later
insisted upon Calvinistic teaching there. Fletcher resigned, rather than complying with this demand. Still, in regard to religious experience, she may have been one of those whose hearts are better than their heads. Consider the following, taken from C. W. Butler’s book, “A Holiness Manifesto,” Chapter 6, entitled “Witnesses to Holiness”.
“My whole heart has not one single grain, this moment, of thirst after approbation. I feel
alone with God; He fills the void; I have not one wish, one will, one desire, but in Him; He hath set my feet in a large room. I have wondered and stood amazed that God should make a conquest of all within me by love.” — Lady Huntington.
