I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy (Leviticus 11:44).

Holiness And The Ten Commandments

“To live godly is to live in the fear and love of God. To be obedient to all His known will. To worship God only, according to the first commandment; to worship Him spiritually, according to the second; to worship Him reverently, according to the third commandment; to worship Him statedly, according to the fourth” (J. B. Chapman).

Christian holiness does not stop with the first four commandments. Holiness of heart also provides the right inward basis for living with our fellowman. Holiness is a spirit of love that accords honor to the parents who have given me life and a home. Holiness makes me similar to God in His high regard for human life. Sanctification is a safeguard from adultery; I hold my own body as a temple of God, and I would not encourage: another to sin against Him. How can a holy man, who loves his neighbor as himself, steal from that neighbor, or bear false witness against him, or covet what he has?

To live the life of holiness “is to worship with the hand by tithing the income and making gifts according to the ability which God giveth. It is to worship with the mind by reading God’s Word and meditating upon His power, wisdom and love. It is to worship Him with the heart by pouring out the spirit in prayer, praise and giving thanks… To live godly is to live in gracious communion, fellowship and agreement with God” (J. B. Chapman).
