Yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead (Romans 6:13). Yield Yourselves Unto God
Consecration is always more satisfying and more permanent when we pay less attention to what we consecrate and remember to whom we are dedicating our lives. It is this truth that Paul stresses when he exhorts us, “Yield yourselves unto God.”
The purpose for such a consecration becomes clear when we put two verses side by side. “Yield yourselves unto God,… that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 6:13; 12:2).
When God has saved me from sin, why should I hesitate to trust my whole life to Him? When in forgiveness I have learned something of God’s good purpose for me, why should I hesitate to place myself completely in His hands?
To yield myself to God is to trust completely Him who is too good to do wrong and too powerful to fail. This is a yielding akin to the vows of marriage when the bride promises “to love, serve, and obey” her husband. She does not hesitate because of the love of him to whom the promise is given. In a similar way full consecration to God comes from full confidence in God.
To trust God thus is to take the real strain out of serving Him. As I yield to the will of God, I am no longer afraid of it. I am willing to ask God to show His will to me. I am ready to explore
- I am fully open to it. I read the Bible to discover it and pray to be sure of God’s will in my decisions. It is this openness and trust that enables the sanctified Christian to sing: Sweet will of God, still fold me closer,
